How to apply for Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad in Berlin

Participation requirements

To participate in Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad, you must ...

  • be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program at your home university,
  • must provide proof of sufficient English language skills (B2), as all courses are held in English,
  • be at least 18 years old.

Before applying, please contact your home university to find out about the recognition of credits earned abroad and the number of credits you need to earn during your stay at Humboldt-Universität.

Steps to the application

Before registering, please read the program information carefully and select up to five courses that interest you from the course list. One of these courses can be a German course. Participation in the accompanying cultural activities, research and global skills training is an integral part of the program.

  1. Register on our MoveOn application portal and start the application process. Fill in all the fields and mark each page as complete.
  2. Send the following document (as scanned pdf documents) via e-mail to humboldt.perspectives@hu-berlin.de:
    • Letter of motivation for your participation in Humboldt Perspectives Study Abroad, including your course selection (up to 5 courses)
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Proof of identity (passport or identity card)
    • Valid student ID card or confirmation of enrollment from your home university
    • Transcript of Records with a list of the courses taken at your home university to-date
    • Proof of English language proficiency (not necessary if English is your native language or the language of instruction at your home university). The following tests are recognized as proof of English language proficiency:
      • TOEFL IBT at least 90 - minimum 20 in each section
      • TOEFL paper based test - at least 580 - minimum 50 in each section
      • IELTS 6.5 but at least 6.0 in each section
      • TOEIC minimum 685 in all areas
      • CEFR at least C1
      • CET-4 (China) 550
      • CET-6 (China) 490
      • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English - grade C
      • Cambridge Advanced Certificate - grade B
      • Duolingo English Test (DET) at least 105
  3. You will receive confirmation of your registration within two weeks after submitting your complete application documents. In the next step, you will be asked to pay the participation fees and will receive further practical information about your stay in Berlin.
